Saint Paul is Minnesota’s second-most populous city. In addition to being Minnesota’s capital, St. Paul serves as the county seat of Ramsey County, the smallest yet most densely populated county in the state. Interstate 35E runs north-south through the city and Interstate 94 runs east-west.
Though Minneapolis is more nationally known, Saint Paul contains important institutions in addition to the capital building. With over 52,000 theater seats, three world-renown museums, and a vibrant arts community, St. Paul is the Arts and Culture Capital of the Midwest. The city’s sporting attractions include the Saint Paul Saints and the Minnesota Wild.
Several major corporations are headquartered in St. Paul, including Ecolab, Securian Financial Group Inc., Lawson Software, and Gander Mountain. Saint Paul is ranked second in the U.S. for its quantity of higher education institutions per capita. The Saint Paul Winter Carnival is held every winter, and in the summer the Minnesota State Fair takes place in neighboring city, Falcon Heights.
